Mountain flying on the shallow sloped East side. Get airborne with help from our new, state of the art, WONDER WINCH stationary tow winch. Tows start at an elevation of 600 feet above sea level on the slopes of Mauna Kea. The private tow area is located on 8 miles north of  Hilo. Strong thermals and big puffy cumulus clouds provide excellent 400 to 800 ft.  per minute lift. Once in the air, you will see Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa, Pu'u O'o (the active volcano vent) and of course the beautiful pacific ocean. Additional, for learning to tow, we have another 90 acre grass lot. The proximity of the ocean makes for very smooth tows in laminar air. Local plowed fields offer difference in ground temperature and texture and procude mild thermals. The perfect place to learn to tow and towing is the perfect way to learn to paraglide. Your first flights are only 10 feet off the ground and the tow opperator controls your altitude, speed and landing. You can take 10 flights during a lesson and rapidly progress in your skills.
